In countries like Austria and Serbia it won't be a problem to find a comfortable place to sleep (hotel, pension, private rooms) on walking distance from each other.
In Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey more improvisation talent is needed. In a lot of places it is possible to stay in private houses. Sometimes you will be invited and won't even be allowed to give any money (although some shoppings or a little present for the children is apprectiated). Actually this kind of hospitality is one of the things that make this trip so special.
In some areas it is absolutely necessary to bring a tent. Camping in the wild is very easy and very nice, specially in the remote areas.
